Our school eco-garden

The summer holidays have ended and we have already begun to do the most necessary tasks in our school eco-garden. Some of "F students, Žana, Pia Lana, Urban, Žan and Alex, participated in our first garden campaign.

We started with weeding, because some plants flourished, despite the rather severe summer drought.

We noticed that at least some of the Hokkaido pumpkins fruits are growing well, while we searched for common bean pods. The drought was obviously overwhelming.

We planted two additional red and yellow currant plants respectively and monthly strawberries in our eco-garden slope. We also planted wormwood amongst the strawberries, because it is supposed to deter some of the garden "pests".

We filled our compost container with the dry remnants of plant and weeds. Some boys made another compost container for dead leaves, made from wooden pallets. The weeping willow tree from our green atrium is intensively dropping its leaves, which we then raked directly into our compost container.

A rainwater collector, which our janitor set up at the start of the summer served us very well for watering our seedlings.

We still have plenty of late summer and autumn work to do.

We'll talk about it in our next programme.
